"Here is Gilbert, and you are coming back with us," said Anne, who had no intention of leaving Leslie to wander alone on the sand-bar on such a night and in such a mood. "There's plenty of room in our boat for three, and we'll tie the flat on behind."Five Elements Chess 2 (mod)

Speed Demons, developer Radiangames’ high-speed racing spectacular, is set to be one of the most purely enjoyable titles launching on Apple Arcade this week. Out of nowhere, the game has now technically released early due to Apple Arcade becoming available to iOS 13 beta testers.

Much in the vein of the classic Burnout games, Speed Demons revels in car-based chaos – only this time it plays out on a much grander scale. Given the sheer density of traffic on every stretch of road, you could potentially be one slight mistake away from a 10-car pileup at any given point.

Based on the trailer, your primary goal is to maintain a ridiculous level of speed while dodging the police in hot pursuit and causing as much carnage as possible. That said, you can also switch to playing as the police if you so wish, which will hopefully keep things feeling fresh for longer. Speaking of keeping things exciting, Speed Demons also features an unlockable, bomb-dropping helicopter.

Shin Megami Tensei Liberation Dx2 is set to celebrate its first anniversary in style with an intriguing crossover event. Characters from Platinum's beloved Bayonetta series have returned to the hit mobile RPG, with an event featuring the cast of legendary manga and anime Berserk also on the horizon.

The Bayonetta event arrives just in time for the 10th-anniversary re-release of Bayonetta and Vanquish, arguably two of the best action games of all time. I've been playing through the remasters on PS4 this week and have been consistently impressed by just how well Vanquish in particular holds up. It's an absolute blast from start to finish, though the lack of a sequel still hurts.

It almost goes without saying that Bayonetta is also pretty darn good, with the PS4 port being the first decent version of it to hit any PlayStation platform. I still have nightmares of that horrendous PS3 hack job.

The crossover event officially started yesterday. It's set to run until March 5th, giving you around two weeks to get involved. Shin Megami Tensei Liberation Dx2 has now received fresh quests to take on and event rewards to earn. On top of that, five-star characters Bayonetta and Jeanne are available to unlock once again after the original crossover from a while back. Both characters benefit from a new skill called Spirit Merge.

The start date of the upcoming Berserk crossover will be announced later this year. Much like the Bayonetta event, it'll feature dedicated events and characters from the anime.

If you're a fan of games like Persona and haven't yet given Shin Megami Tensei Liberation Dx2 a go, you'll find it available for download now as a free-to-play title from both the App Store and Google Play.
On the hunt for more top-tier mobile RPGs? Well, here are 25 of the very best for iPhone and iPad

Bad at math? Correct that with The Mesh, a puzzler that uses numbers as its main mechanic. But don't panic, it's quite simple, at least at the start. You'll slide number on a board in order to add, substract and divide them until they disappear.

We gave The Mesh our silver award, saying it was a "bright, clever, and premium puzzler that will keep your brain occupied for a good long while"

And what more could you want from a freebie?

I remember snatches, little moments here and there. The smell of cardboard and plastic; the way the boxes, shiny and slick, rattled while you walked them home. Twisting dials to answer questions and reveal the arcane symbols that would allow you to get to the game stored on those mottled, blue plastic disks. Adventure games were an adventure before you even got to play them. And then there was Beneath a Steel Sky.

The matte black box with the shiny silver detailing, the orange sky when you walked outside. You made maps while I sat next to you, trying to figure out the maze of screens, trying to remember where everything was. I wonder if you still have them? There was a strange, communal humanity to it - like I was watching a film where we both had a say in the ending.

I don't remember if we ever got to the end. You probably did, you were always more patient and methodical than I was back then. You got our dad's problem solving; A to B, and if that didn't work C, and D, and so on. I got Mum's anxious passion, mixed with something from neither of them that had already started scratching, even then, at the back of my brain.Beyond a Steel SkySo what of a sequel? I think this might be the first time that something that holds genuine nostalgia for me in the gaming world has come back round. I know the names, and the beats, of plenty of other games from the era; but reading Alan Moore comics, laid on one of our creaking beds, while you explored a future we'd never imagined before, holds a special place in me.

There are words used to describe the sequel that worry me a little - open world, sandbox - the gewgaws of a modernity that took the grey of Beneath a Steel Sky but none of the joy. In the early days of gaming there was less delineation between playing on your own and playing with friends - we only had one computer, so we took turns. If there was nothing on TV, we'd slip into a different world on the other screen we owned.

Now there's so much demand for entertainment, so many ways that it can be delivered to us; so many screens. The dream is that Beyond a Steel Sky will understand those two boys huddled around a blinking CRT monitor; discussing, suggesting, arguing sometimes when things weren't going their way. It'll understand that the story on those clicking disks was only half of it - the adventure came as much from us as it did the game.
